Frequently Asked Questions

Who can join the Active 20-30 Club?

In order to encourage the development of young leaders in our community, anyone between the ages of 20 and 39 can join the Active 20-30 Club.

Does the Active 20-30 Club have any affiliations with religious or political organizations?

No. Diversity is welcome. Religious and political conversations can be found in the inter-personal relationships that are formed, but they are not part of meetings nor funded by our club. Our mission statement is universal.

What affiliations does the Active 20-30 Club have?

We have a national organization (Active 20-30 USA & Canada), an international organization (Active 20-30 International, which can be found throughout the Americas), and are a member of WOCO, a world council of service organizations. You can find links to the national organization and WOCO on our homepage for more information.

What is a 501(c)(3)?

501(c)(3) means that we meet the federal government's standards for a non-profit organization to accept tax-deductible donations. We do not employ anyone, so the vast majority of our money goes to the charities we support through hands-on events and grants. We do incur minimal administrative expenses, but those are typically funded by our dues; when an exception is made the donating entity is fully aware the funds are being used for administrative purposes.

What does it cost to be a part of the Active 20-30 Club?

Each club’s bylaws specify the dues for the local club. Our local dues are $10 per month per person. Our national dues are about $85 per year, which includes the international dues. We do have some social events where we use local dues (not donated funds), such as our board installation dinner and our monthly social. Our dues are not meant to be exclusionary, and our membership chair can make arrangements for financial assistance or payment schedules for anyone who is willing to be an active member.

What kind of commitment do members of the Active 20-30 Club make?

We ask for attendance at our signature annual fundraising event, Puttin' on the Ritz. We also ask for attendance at our national project hands-on event, the back to school shopping spree. In addition, members should attend any three other events or meetings throughout the year. Circumstances are, of course, taken into account. Good fellowship and reasonable conduct are expected. Though we are a fun-loving group, membership is offered to those who are willing to work toward the goals expressed in our mission statement.

Where does the money go?

We do provide grants to some organizations that fit our mission statement. However, we have been shifting our focus to spending our money as the "primary caregiver" for the funds, which means that we spend it on events where our members are present. Approximately 70% of our expenditure last year involved events where we were either the primary sponsor or a secondary participant.

What can I do to support the Active 20-30 Club?
